We are an independent management and organisational development consultancy working mainly for clients in the higher and further education and research sectors. Although we are a small company, much of our work has had impacts reaching all UK FE and HE institutions.
Our customers include institutions, Funding Councils and their agencies including the JISC and the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education, and shared services consortia, some of which are international, such as Nordbib. Topics that we are commonly concerned with include management of change, governance and improving effectiveness. Our clients typically have in common an involvement in information and information services.
The company was formed in 2006 by Jon Duke and Andy Jordan who had been previously working together as independent consultants since 2002. Before then, in careers working within universities, each had held posts as Directors of University computing services. The company has built up an extensive network of contacts both within the education and research sectors and with other consultancies who work in the same broad area. When we propose a piece of work to a client we actively seek opportunities to involve consultancies that we have experience of in order to enhance the results that we are capable of delivering. Some of our most significant pieces of work have been carried out in conjunction with others.
In today's economic climate, educational institutions have for some time been exploring ways to decrease costs while protecting the quality of their outputs. This work is being carried out in the knowledge that Government and the Funding Councils and their agencies are taking a leading role in an agenda emphasising modernisation and advocating adoption of shared services. For some time now our company has taken a leading role in conducting studies and participating in programmes of work aimed at supporting this agenda. We are facilitating a wider understanding of use of shared services as a strategic tool, for the potential they offer in both lowering costs and raising the quality of service delivery.
